Quality Hay Bales for Sale, Grown Naturally in Dorset

Small bale hay

We have small, conventional-sized hay bales, produced from well-established permanent pasture in the heart of rural Dorset. Grown without the use of pesticides and with sustainability in mind, part of our grassland is managed under the Countryside Stewardship scheme to support wildlife and soil health.

Our hay is carefully made from a diverse mix of natural grasses, offering a clean, sweet-smelling forage that horses love. These bales are consistently palatable, making them a popular choice with local equestrians.

Whether you're looking to stock up for stables or need a trusted source of quality forage, our hay delivers both nutrition and peace of mind. Collection from the farm is welcome, with local delivery available on request.

Round bale hay

The same quality permanent pasture hay, available in 1.2m (4 ft) round bales.  A practical choice for larger yards, smallholdings, or anyone looking to stock up with fewer individual bales to handle.

Made from the same diverse natural grass mix as our small bales, grown without pesticides on well-established Dorset pasture, these round bales offer excellent value for bulk buyers. Each bale is made during the same harvest window, so the forage quality is consistent throughout.

Round bales are available for collection from the farm. Delivery can be arranged depending on quantity and distance, please get in touch to discuss.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a tractor or other machines to move hay bales?

Our small bales generally weight between 15kg and 20kg, so can be lifted by hand.

The larger round bales are considerably heavier, so need a machine to be lifted, although it's quite possible to roll them by hand on level ground.

Is haylage higher in energy than hay?

Not always. Haylage isn't automatically higher in energy simply because it's haylage. The energy content depends primarily on the type of grass and when it was cut.

Many commercial haylages are made from younger, more nutritious grass, which is why they often contain more energy than traditional hay, but it's perfectly possible for a hay to be more energy-dense than a haylage.

Take a look at our "hay vs. haylage" article for some tips.

How big is a small bale of hay?

Our hay bales are approximately 90cm x 45cm x 38cm.   There will be a small amount of variation, depending on the density of the crop and type of baler.

What type of hay do you sell?

We sell small conventional bales and round bales, both made from permanent pasture in the heart of rural Dorset. The grass is a diverse natural mix, grown without pesticides, giving a clean, sweet-smelling hay that horses tend to find very palatable.

How big is a round bale of hay?

Our round hay bales are approximately 1.2m (4 ft) in diameter and 1.2m (4 ft) wide.

There will be some variation depending on the density of the crop.

Typically, a round bale will contain the equivalent of somewhere around 12 - 16 small bales of hay.

Where are you based and do you deliver?

We're based at Okeford Fitzpaine in the Blackmore Vale, Dorset. Collection from the farm is always welcome. Local delivery is available on request: please contact us to discuss your location and we can confirm whether delivery is practical.

How much does your hay cost?

Current prices for small and round bales are listed in the pricing table on this page. Hay products are zero-rated for VAT. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.

Can I reserve hay before harvest?

Yes. We take advance orders ahead of the season. If you'd like to secure priority delivery when the new harvest comes in, contact us early and we'll make sure you're first in the queue.

Do you only cover Dorset?

We're well placed to supply customers across Dorset and into neighbouring Somerset and Wiltshire, depending on quantities and distance. It's worth getting in touch to discuss.
